What is Voice?


The meaning of word ‘Voice’ in the dictionary is the sound or sounds produced through the mouth by a person speaking or singing. But this word has a different relevance in English grammar. In grammar, the voice of a verb indicates the relationship between the action that the verb express and when the subject is the doer of the action, the verb is in the active voice and when the subject of the verb is acted upon it is the passive voice.


In grammar voice is the quality of a verb that indicates/ describes whether its subject acts or acted upon. Voice can be active or passive.
